“Heavydirtysoul” opened the night with Dun’s pounding drums and Joseph’s melodic piano riffing. In some ways, this show, which spread 24 songs over nearly two hours, followed the template of their last full set in town, an October 2015 concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. It’s been a remarkable ride for these two guys from Columbus, Ohio, from playing the side stage at KROQ’s Weenie Roast in 2013 to the Forum for the Emotional Roadshow tour of arenas, and eventually Honda Center in Anaheim way off in February 2017 as the tour continues. Twenty One Pilots broke into the mainstream in a huge way last year, riding the youthful angst and wistful nostalgia of the hit single “Stressed Out” to the top of the charts, and judging by how things have worked out for the duo since, surely they’re not still wishing to turn back time, as that song so plaintively expresses.įor in a full house at the Forum in Inglewood on Saturday, singer and multi-instrumentalist Tyler Joseph and drummer Josh Dun had to feel the love of an audience that cheered and danced and sang along all night, and had to realize on some level that these good times are going to be their good old days in the future.
